Alabama: Hart of Dixie

What better show is there to represent the actual Heart of Dixie than the show that steals its name? Hart of Dixie is a perfect match for Alabama!

This CW series ran from 2011 to 2015 and starred America’s sweetheart, Rachel Bilson, as the titular Dr. Zoe Hart. After her life falls apart in New York, Zoe takes a job at a small medical practice in the tiny town of Bluebell, Alabama. After later learning that the practice was co-owned by the father she never knew she had, Zoe decides to stick around a make a home among the southern people.

As the series focuses heavily on Zoe’s transition to life in a small town, Hart of Dixie can really be read as a celebration of Alabama culture. Sure, the accents are often exaggerated and the drama is never-ending, but more often this sweet and cute series really nailed what it’s like to live in the South.

As the show wrapped back in 2015, you can check out the entire series on Netflix today. There are four stellar seasons. Yay! Tune in to Hart of Dixie if you like shows that easily balance drama with a good sense of humor or if you’re looking for a great series that feature a strong female lead.
