Rhode Island: Blue Planet

Rhode Island is a teeny, tiny state (the smallest in America, in fact) and, as such, doesn’t get a ton of love on Netflix or all of television. The most well-known show that is set here is Family Guy, which, unfortunately, currently calls Hulu home instead of Netflix. Oh well.

With that underrepresentation in mind, we’re taking some creative liberty here and pulling inspiration from Rhode Island’s nickname: folks call it The Ocean State. This is in reference to the area’s many bays and inlets. In fact, these bodies of water make up a whopping 14% of Rhode Island’s area. If you want a truly incredible vacation some day, be sure to stay on Rhode Island’s incredible Atlantic Ocean shoreline.

Thanks to all that water, we’re choosing the gorgeous BBC docuseries Blue Planet to represent the area. Natural historian David Attenborough takes viewers across the globe to visit the most amazing bodies of water and their resident flora and fauna. Bonus! If you watch Blue Planet and decide you love it, you can also catch Blue Planet 2 currently streaming on Netflix.

The series may not make a stop in Rhode Island, but it will definitely get you jazzed to visit somewhere that celebrates the ocean in just the same way. By the end of the series, you’ll be adding that trip to The Ocean State to your bucket list.
