Stranger Things star David Harbour, also known as Hopper, teased some “big, big surprises” in Stranger Things 3, coming July 4, 2019.

There are some surprises on the way in Stranger Things 3, according to star David Harbour, who plays Hopper in the Netflix original series.

Harbour was interviewed by Collider’s Steve Weintraub at CinemaCon for Hellboy, but Harbour also dished on the new season of Netflix’s best series and teased some “big, big surprises” along the way, according to Collider. For those who don’t know, Harbour stars as Hellboy in the new movie.

What exactly is in store in Stranger Things 3 is still up in the air. Harbour and the full cast of the show are sworn to secrecy, so we won’t be getting any plot details any time soon. Harbour’s surprises comment is the closest thing we’re going to get to a spoiler from any of the cast.

Check out the full interview with Harbour at Collider. We’ve shared some of Harbour’s comments on Stranger Things 3 from the interview below, via Collider.

"“I always get choked up when I watch it, and this season is no different. It takes a lot of risks, but in its essence it’s going to smack you in the heart. It’s really funny and it’s really beautiful and there are some big, big surprises.”"

I don’t think people had much doubt that there would be some big surprises in Stranger Things 3. This show doesn’t hold back when it comes to surprising its viewers, and I think that’s one thing we all love about the show. We’re swept up on this amazing journey with these characters through all the twists and turns.

More from Stranger Things

Most importantly, though, Stranger Things earns, for the most part, all of those twists and turns. Some shows pull off twists just to surprise the audience, and that often feels cheap to me. Other than Barb’s death, the Duffer Brothers left breadcrumbs to all these big events and then led the audiences there through excellent storytelling.

From Harbour’s comments, it sounds like we’re going to get another big dose of that in the third season. Honestly, it scares me a little bit because I don’t want to lose any of these great characters. Obviously, we’ve lost Barb and Bob in the first two seasons, and they were great characters. I would have loved for them to stick around throughout this series.

If this were a network show, I don’t think we’d have to worry about one of the main characters being killed off. But, this is Netflix, and in a post-Game of Thrones world, I’m a little worried our heroes might not be safe this season. It just seems like it’s all building to that with everything we know about the season. Fingers crossed our heroes make it through Stranger Things 3!
