10. Our Planet

Premiere Date: April 5, 2019

Season: 1 (8 episodes)

This spring, Netflix is debuting a nature documentary series from the team behind BBC’s Planet Earth. Our Planet, which has been in development since 2015, will be in eight parts. Each part will serve as an episode and all will drop on April 5.

Our Planet will be narrated by broadcaster and natural historian David Attenborough. He’s best known for his natural history programs within the BBC Natural History Unit. Attenborough narrated Planet Earth and its sequel Planet Earth II, among dozens of other series. His work with documentaries launched the genre to a wider audience of viewers as he is synonymous to wildlife docu-series.

The documentary vows to show the world’s natural beauty but also features how climate change is greatly affecting the planet. This nature documentary serves as a different learning experience for viewers. Rather than educate viewers on specific areas of the world or showcase certain species, it reveals the undeniable harm that humans are doing to their own planet.

The hard truth is on full display through Our Planet‘s narration. After viewing a beautiful shot of nature on full display, viewers will then learn that the exact location is now destroyed. The series will also feature living species that are in a real threat to extinction. The complex reality is grim but it’s also a very important discussion starter. If anything, Our Planet will open many more eyes to what is going on across the globe in the hopes of changing our current way of life.
