13. Santa Clarita Diet

Premiere Date: March 29, 2019

Season: 3 (10 episodes)

Santa Clarita Diet first debuted in February 2017. The horror comedy from Victor Fresco is officially back this spring with its third season. The offbeat premise makes it truly a fun series to watch. Despite being in its third season, it’s still considered underrated and deserves more viewers.

The series centers on the seemingly normal Hammond family living in Santa Clarita, California. Joel and Sheila’s lives as real estate agents are turned upside down after Sheila transforms into a zombie. Her physical appearance remains the same but she needs to eat human flesh in order to survive. After their teenage daughter learns of her mother’s transformation, the whole family must keep it a secret from the outside world.

Santa Clarita Diet stars Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant as Sheila and Joel. Their daughter Abby is played by Liv Hewson while her best friend Eric is portrayed by Skyler Gisondo. The rest of the cast is rounded out by Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Natalie Morales, Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, Joel McHale, Jonathan Slavin, Ethan Suplee, and Linda Lavin.

Whereas the first season deals with Sheila’s new way of life and how to cope with the changes, season 2 dives deeper into the mythology and source of her zombie transformation. They also learn that she’s not the only zombie out there. The questioning and investigating causes more of the truth to come out which makes Sheila and her family a target in season 3.

As Sheila tries to make her condition look like a God-given gift to attain more allies, in reality, her life is in danger more than ever. The Knights of Serbia, generations of zombie hunters, caught wind of someone living with the transformation in Santa Clarita. The Hammond family will need to go to greater lengths than ever before to keep Sheila from becoming a victim.
