According to recent reports, Adam Sandler will return to host Saturday Night Live in May. Read on for more details on why this is a big deal for actor/comedian.

Being that SNL is a staple of American television, it doesn’t come as a surprise to learn that celebrities hosting the show is a big deal to people around the country. The fervor usually depends on who’s hosting, but when a former Saturday Night Live alum returns to host, there’s no questioning how major the event is. In Adam Sandler’s case, this is somewhat of an odd reunion.

While Sandler became widely known for the outrageous characters he developed on SNL, he was abruptly fired from the show back in 1995. Sandler has made sparse appearances since but no definitive comeback was ever spoken of.

Now, however, it looks like NBC and Sandler have put their differences aside to get the hugely successful comedian back on the air. Sandler is returning to host the show but who’s to say he won’t remain on in a semi-permanent capacity?

Both Alec Baldwin and Robert De Niro have reprised their roles as parodies of Robert Mueller and Donald Trump multiple times, striking a chord with audiences everywhere. Adam Sandler could be next.

Many of Sandler’s funniest personalities were crafted on SNL and we all expect him to portray at least one noteworthy politician or public official during his May return. And as long as his performance clicks with fans, they should probably expect Sandler to pop in from time to time.

In any case, Sandler hosting SNL should be quite fun. He’s bound to revive at least one of the characters he became known for on the show, but which one? Personally, we’d like to hear a brief soliloquy from Opera Man. He wasn’t the best of Sandler’s characters but definitely paved the way for the ones who came after.
