After Life officially renewed for season 2 at Netflix
After Life is coming back for season 2 at Netflix. The streaming network renewed Ricky Gervais’s dark comedy series for a second season.
The Ricky Gervais creation After Life has been renewed for its second season airing in 2020. Less than a month after its premiere, Netflix has ordered six more episodes.
The overwhelmingly positive reactions to Gervais’ dark-comedy prompted Netflix to renew it for a second season, according to a report from Deadline. According to Gervais, he had already been writing out the next set of episodes before the announcement came.
Recently, Gervais has taken to Twitter, as he does, to share his appreciation of the fans outpouring of love towards the show. Tweets containing #AfterLife are being monitored by the British stand-up and he has been vocal about the show’s success.
Netflix announced the season 2 renewal on social media.
After Life debuted on Netflix March 8 and has been met with mixed reviews by critics. Gervais has always been a polarizing figure from his hosting gig at the Golden Globes and his twitter feed. However, this show displays a more emotional side of his acting to go along with the sometimes grating humor. He has found a new life in scripted comedy/drama on Netflix after his short-lived program Derek came to an end.
A staple at Netflix, Ricky Gervais collaborates with the streaming giant seemingly every year. He has a few stand-up specials, movies, and aforementioned television shows with Netflix. Although he leans into his specific style of comedy, it’s obvious that viewers love him and his creations.
After Life stars Gervais as Tony, a man who recently lost his wife, Lisa, played by Kerry Godlimann. He is also joined by Game of Thrones and Harry Potter veteran David Bradley, who plays Tony’s father.
While waiting for the second season you can watch the six-episode season exclusively on Netflix.
