The Stranger Things 3 trailer just introduced a new monster, and we have a lot of theories about this new monster!

Netflix surprised Stranger Things fans with the new trailer for Stranger Things 3 this week, and it was everything we could have hoped for. There were so many great clips in the new trailer, and we have a ton of big questions about the new season after watching.

Most importantly, though, we have some theories about the new monster revealed at the end of the trailer. unfortunately, or maybe for the best, depending on how you look at it, we know very little about the new monster, but we have some solid theories about what this new thing is.

Based on the previous seasons, there’s like a 99 percent chance the monster is based on a Dungeons & Dragons creature, but there’s always way more to it than that.

Let’s get to our first theory, but before we start, it’s probably a good idea to watch the new trailer for Stranger Things 3!

A close relative of the Demogorgon

First of all, there’s reason to believe this creature is from the Upside Down. It looks like the demogorgon and all the demodogs from the first two seasons of the series. There are some major similarities in how the new monster looks compared to the demogorgon and demodogs. Obviously, there’s the skin, but the teeth and slime are definitely not of this world.

We’ve seen two variations of Upside Down creatures in Stranger Things so far, not counting the Mind Flayer, although that’s not really a creature and more a god. Anyway, we’ve seen the demodogs and demogorgons, but we know that there has to be more creatures in the Upside Down. The demogorgons have to eat something, and something probably has to eat them, and I think we’re looking at it. Circle of life.

In the trailer, we saw there is a laser beam shooting at what looks like the gate that Eleven closed in the second season. The thing could have gotten in through the gate or another portal in Hawkins. Maybe it was even left behind when the Mind Flayer was vanquished and the gate closed, and this thing has been eating rats to stay alive.

If it is directly from the Upside Down, there’s a good chance it could have some Dungeons & Dragons ties. Inverse did a great breakdown of possible D&D monsters it could be.

It’s all possible in Stranger Things 3! I think this is a pretty likely explanation as to what that thing is.
