The Umbrella Academy is the hottest new show on Netflix, and fans of the series, along with fans of the comics by Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba, are wondering when The Umbrella Academy will be renewed for season 2 or if Netflix will cancel this series.

It’s been a week since The Umbrella Academy premiered on Netflix, at the time of publishing, and there’s no doubt this is one of Netflix’s best new shows in a while. At first, the reviews for the series were all over the place. Some praised the series, while others said the show missed the mark.

It’s pretty clear how Netflix subscribers feel about the show, though. In its first week, the show was the most popular Netflix series, according to TV Time’s Binge Report, and it was especially buzzy on social media, which is something Netflix takes into consideration.

Aside from the impressive number of people watching the show, The Umbrella Academy is excellent. It’s a fresh take on the “superhero” genre, and it’s a must-watch for anyone interested in fun, thrilling shows.

The series has not been renewed for season 2 yet. That’s not outside of the norm. It usually takes a month or two to announce renewals. This series could have its renewal for season 2 announced sooner than usual, especially considering how the first season ended. No spoilers here, but there’s definitely enough story moving forward in season 2 and probably even beyond that.

If the conflict presented in the first season was entirely resolved, I’d be okay with this series ending after season 1. That’s not what happened, though. Accordingly, Netflix owes it to its fans to renew The Umbrella Academy for season 2.
