The Vampire Diaries fans woke to the fear of their favorite show leaving Netflix. Don’t worry if you’re in the U.S. The vampire love story isn’t disappearing. At least, not yet!

If you woke to the news that The Vampire Diaries was leaving Netflix, you’ll be forgiven for an initial panic. It is leaving, but not in the United States. The series is sticking around for the time being.

On Feb. 20, fans started spreading the news that The Vampire Diaries was leaving Netflix, missing out the fact that it was leaving the Australian and New Zealand sites. In the U.S., the series starring Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, and Ian Somerhalder, is sticking around.

To help clear up the confusing, Netflix U.S. tweeted out to share that the vampire love story was sticking around for now and it isn’t disappearing “anytime soon.” However, Australians and New Zealanders have a week to binge-watch all eight seasons.

One thing that needs to be discussed is this “anytime soon.” As a Warner Bros. show, it’s important to bring up the point that The Vampire Diaries could end up leaving the service. That could be sooner than any of us would like.

During the TCAs, Warner announced that shows on Netflix would likely eventually leave the service. Netflix may have paid $100m for Friends but that’s only until the end of 2019 and the show is going to be an exclusive on the WarnerMedia service from 2020. There is talk of The CW shows having the same treatment. Once the WarnerMedia service is open, the Warner Bros. CW shows will head there.

The Flash, Arrow, and Riverdale were named, but there are many other CW shows that are produced by Warner Bros. Studios. Supernatural is one that immediately came to mind but there are many others. The CW has many shows that have ended that were produced by Warner Bros. Gossip GirlThe Vampire Diaries, and The Secret Circle all come to mind.

If Warner Bros. is going to remove the CW shows, the shows that have since come to an end will likely be on the list, too. Netflix’s deal comes to an end in the spring, so we could start seeing exits around then. But, for now, The Vampire Diaries is safe.
