Netflix announced the renewal of The Haunting of Hill House with a twist. With an all-new story and set of characters, the show is becoming an anthology series. Now all eyes are on when The Haunting of Hill House season 2 will come to Netflix and it’s likely in 2020.

Considering Netflix shows are filmed in their entirety before the release, it takes time between seasons to get the show ready for launch. For a 10-episode season, it will take a good half a year just to film, but there’s writing, pre-production, and post-production to go through.

With the renewal coming four months after the release of the first season, it’s clear that we shouldn’t expect the release to be before the end of 2019. The complete change to the story and the characters will also push things back. This isn’t a case of just picking up with the same cast members and continuing their story, but heading straight back to the drawing board. There may even be a new cast, rather than keeping most of the old in the way American Horror Story does things.

It looks like some of the pre-production work may have started. Netflix and The Haunting showrunner Mike Flanagan have already set the title, so the book the season is based on has been picked. This will help to reduce the development time but not enough to bring the season in 2019.

So, now when in 2020 will The Haunting of Hill House season 2 come to Netflix? Expect it to be towards the end. A Halloween release date (or somewhere close to Halloween) makes a lot of sense. This is one of the reasons the first season arguably did so well. People are in the mood for a scare during October so releasing horror shows is perfect.
