Amy Poehler will be directing Netflix’s newest book-to-film adaptation, Moxie. Check out all the details.

Once again, Netflix is doing what they do best: turning bestselling novels into films. The latest novel is Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu and the film is set to be directed by Leslie Knope herself, Amy Poehler, according to a report from Deadline.

The novel revolves around Vivian Carter, a 16-year-old high school student who is just trying to get through school without being noticed by the sexist dudes who seem to run it. But once she finds the conditions at school to be unbearable, she decides to do something about it.

With a little help from her mother’s pictures from her Riot Grrrl days in the 90s, Vivian creates a feminist zine to spread throughout her school. And while it’s done on a whim, it turns into a revolution of girl sharing their experiences, supporting each other, and fighting back against the sexism and misogyny in their school.

Vivian’s zine turns into a movement of girls from every clique and background coming together to fight for equality. And who better to direct this movie than Amy Poehler! Poehler is also producing the film through her production company, Paper Kite. Production for Moxie is supposed to start this fall, so the film will probably not hit Netflix until sometime next year.

As it’s early days, there is no cast list yet, but with Poehler in the driver’s seat, it is hard to imagine this movie not being awesome. The novel has been adapted for the film by Tamara Chestna who Poehler has worked with before on both Parks and Recreation and Wine Country, Poehler’s directorial debut.

With how popular the novel was and the message it sends to girls, this is sure to be another hit for Netflix. Anyone who has ever read Moxie will definitely want to check out how it translates to the screen.
