Sex Education season 2 is a go! Netflix renewed Sex Education starring Asa Butterfield and Gillian Anderson for season 2 and announced the news.

Sex Education season 2 is officially happening at Netflix! The streaming network announced the news in a renewal announcement video posted on YouTube and Social Media.

The show premiered on Netflix on Jan. 11, and it usually takes a month or two before Netflix announces a renewal. Apparently, Sex Education got the season 2 nod earlier than most new Netflix shows.

According to Netflix, the new season will consist of eight episodes. We haven’t heard officially, but we’re expecting Sex Education season 2 will be released in early 2020.

The series stars Asa Butterfield, Ncuti Gatwa, Emma Mackey, Connor Swindells, Kedar Williams-Stirling, and Gillian Anderson. It tells the story of Otis Milburn (Butterfield), an awkward teenager with little romantic experience, though his mom is a sex therapist. Otis partners with Maeve Wiley (Mackey) in a side hustle to help their fellow classmates with sexual issues.

We shared the renewal announcement below!

This news should come as no surprise to those who watched the series or those who read about how well this show was doing. According to the Binge Report, Sex Education was one of the most popular shows, along with You and The Punisher, over the last few weeks. That’s usually a great sign for a new show that had very little buzz leading up to its release.

Netflix has canceled some popular shows recently, so there’s always a chance of it happening, but it seemed like Sex Education’s future was about as safe as possible. And, for good reason, too. This show is amazing. It has as much heart as any Netflix show I’ve seen yet, and it’s hilarious. On top of those things, the series has an outstanding young cast. Usually, in a show like this we’ll see one or two really good performances, but in this show, nearly every main character is perfectly cast. Butterfield, Mackey, Gatwa, Swindells, and Williams-Stirling are really, really good in their respective roles, and of course, Anderson is as good as ever.

I can’t see where the show goes in the next season. There is so much left to be explored within this world and these stories. Most of the series will probably revolve around the will-they-or-won’t-they relationship of Otis and Maeve, but I also have a feeling the writers have some more twists and turns up their sleeves.
