The Punisher season 3: Will Netflix renew or cancel the series?

Will Netflix cancel The Punisher after season 2? Or, will they renew the series for season 3? It sure feels like Netflix will cancel the series.

Marvel’s The Punisher season 2 premiered on Netflix on Friday, Jan. 18, and as fans binge-watch and finish the new season, everyone has the same thing on their mind:

Will Netflix cancel the series, or will they renew The Punisher for season 3?

I think everybody who has seen the Netflix-Marvel shows, and even those who haven’t, are expecting Netflix to cancel The Punisher after season 2. The streaming network already cut Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Daredevil, and with one season of Jessica Jones left, that show is likely getting the ax, too.

The Punisher is a bit different than those shows. While Frank Castle was introduced in Daredevil season 2, his story feels less connected than the rest of the Netflix-Marvel Universe. Netflix, if Marvel was on board, could easily continue this story even if they canceled the rest of The Defenders shows.

I think it’s highly unlike The Punisher season 3 goes forward at Netflix, but I’m holding on to a little hope that Netflix will see what they have on their hands with this show and bring it back for another season.

I’m probably holding on to too much hope, though. With Disney+ starting up soon and Daredevil being the only Netflix-Marvel show pulling big ratings, Netflix will probably just cancel this series and move on to shows like Stranger Things 3, Space Force, Shadow and Bone and more big projects they have planned. It’s a better investment for them than working with their direct competition on a series no matter how good that series is.
