Space Force: The Office’s Steve Carell to star in Netflix comedy
By Bryce Olin
Netflix announced a new comedy called Space Force from The Office’s Steve Carell and Greg Daniels.
If you’re a fan of The Office, we have some great news for you! The Office’s Greg Daniels and Steve Carell partnered for a new Netflix original series Space Force. The streaming network announced the news on Twitter, via the See What’s Next account.
Carell, who starred as Michael Scott in The Office, which was developed by Daniels, will star in Space Force, a new “workplace comedy” about the men and women who have to “figure it out,” i.e. the Space Force, according to Netflix.
I thought this was a joke when I first heard the news. It’s unbelievable, but it’s real and it’s happening at Netflix.
Although we don’t see any footage, this has the potential to be Netflix’s best show yet, and I’m actually serious. Daniels made one of the best shows of all time (The Office) by adapting Ricky Gervais’s UK series, and Carell delivered one of the most iconic performances of all time (Michael Scott) when he last paired with Daniels. I don’t know if I’ve ever been more excited for a TV series.
Check out the teaser below.
As mentioned in the teaser, this is clearly making fun of the proposed “Space Force,” which President Donald Trump announced last year. There’s so much room for jokes here. I can’t wait to see what Daniels and Carell and what’s sure to be an amazing team come up with.
Netflix has not announced the cast, other than Carell, yet. I’m sure that will be announced soon. According to a report from Variety, the episode count and release date has not been announced yet either.
Assuming all goes smoothly, this show could be on Netflix by the end of the year. If not, expect the show in early 2020.
