The Office could be leaving Netflix

NBC Universal is considering taking back control of some of their key shows, including The Office, from Netflix.
The Office is easily one of the most binged-watched TV shows on Netflix. But, it could be leaving the streaming service NBC Universal. The network is considering taking back control of some of their key shows from Netflix, and one of them happens to be The Office.
According to a report from Deadline, NBC Universal CEO Steve Burke made the announcement that a new NBC streaming service is on the way. They would look at bringing some of their standout shows to the service. The Office is undeniably one of the best shows to ever air on the network, so it’s no surprise it would be one of the titles they will be looking to bring to their new streaming service.
The NBC streaming platform, however, is not due to arrive until early 2020. At the earliest, you have until then to binge-watch the hit comedy series as often as possible on Netflix. It’s more likely that The Office would remain on Netflix through 2021, though.
Currently, the deal between both Netflix and NBC for the rights to show The Office on Netflix will run until 2021, according to the report. Unless NBC intended to break the deal early, which is not always possible, you can relax with the knowledge you have a couple of years left of the series being available on Netflix.
What happens after that however is the big question. If the show leaves, it could elicit a similar reaction from fans that took place when Friends was going to leave Netflix.
When the announcement came that Friends was to be removed from Netflix, a mass outrage prompted the streaming giants to strike a deal with WarnerMedia. This led to Netflix extending their license with WarnerMedia to keep the popular sitcom on the platform.
The hope will be that this can be done for The Office. Whether NBC will be interested in doing so is another thing.
