What is Netflix’s Bird Box about?

Netflix’s Bird Box is the most-watched Netflix original film ever. What’s it all about and is it worth your time?

Bird Box is Netflix’s most popular movie of all time after it premiered on Dec. 21 on the streaming service around the world. With Sandra Bullock leading the way and everyone talking about the movie, Netflix fans are trying to find out what this movie is about and if it’s worth watching.

So, what is Bird Box about? 

Basically, the film follows a mother and her children as they try to survive some kind of monster that takes over the mind of its victims and causes them to harm themselves. The monster, or “force,” as Netflix calls it, only affects those who see it. Accordingly, the survivors blindfold themselves to stay alive.

Bird Box is based on the novel of the same name written by Josh Malerman and published in 2014.  The novel tells the story of an apocalyptic event and the fallout.

Eric Heisserer adapted the novel and wrote the screenplay for the Netflix original film, which was directed by Susanne Bier. The film has an excellent cast, including Bullock, Trevante Rhoades, Sarah Paulson, Lil Rel Howery, John Malkovich and more.

"When a mysterious force decimates the world’s population, only one thing is certain: if you see it, you take your life. Facing the unknown, Malorie finds love, hope and a new beginning only for it to unravel. Now she must flee with her two children down a treacherous river to the one place left that may offer sanctuary. But to survive, they’ll have to undertake the perilous two-day journey blindfolded."

Is it worth watching? 

That’s a tough question because this movie is definitely not for everyone. There are some definite similarities to A Quiet Place, so if you liked that movie, you will probably like Bird Box.

If you like other post-apocalyptic thrillers, you should definitely watch this movie!

If you’re not into post-apocalyptic movies or movies that are thrilling and a bit scary or freaky, this movie is probably not for you.
