Marvel’s Iron Fist: Danny Rand will return in the Marvel Universe

Marvel’s Iron Fist may be over at Netflix, but Danny Rand is not. It has been confirmed the character will return in the Marvel Universe.

As you may have heard, Marvel’s Iron Fist will not return for a season 3 on Netflix. But, it’s not the end of this character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Entertainment Weekly confirmed been confirmed that the character Danny Rand will return in the  MCU. The report didn’t mention how or when, but the Immortal Iron Fist will live on.

So, let’s break that down and do a little bit of speculating ourselves.

First question, how? Well, while Danny Rand is no longer in Marvel’s Iron Fist, he could make an appearance in any of the other Netflix Marvel series, such as Jessica Jones, Daredevil or Luke Cage, maybe even The Punisher if they really wanted to. He has guest appeared in Luke Cage season 2, so it is by no means out of the question.

There is always the possibility of returning in Marvel’s Defenders as well, but the idea of a season 2 of the mini-series is looking bleak.

The earliest Danny could appear in the MCU again is in the new seasons of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones. Luke Cage is expected to be given the green light for a season 3, so Danny could easily be written into that season. Jessica Jones is already filming season 3, so there is plenty of opportunities for him to show up at some point in there as well.

An appearance in Daredevil is also a possibility for Danny. Season 3 is set to premiere this month so it wouldn’t be then unless they had already filmed his appearance prior to the cancellation notice. Netflix is expected to pick Daredevil up for a fourth season so there is plenty of opportunities there.

Will Jones continue to play the Iron Fist? And, this is the big question. If Danny showed up in any of the other Netflix-Marvel series, then I would like to think it would be Jones who would play him. Considering he technically no longer has a show, he could sign on to another show or movie and be unavailable. It’s all up in the air.

It will be interesting to see if the Netflix-Marvel shows refer to Iron Fist or its character in any way. Obviously, those shows are continuing while this version of the Iron Fist story will not. The Netflix-Marvel shows already do a poor job of connecting events in this world. Characters and events are mentioned and alluded to but rarely discusses at length.

For example, the Chitauri Invasion is “the incident” or “the battle of New York.” In Luke Cage season 1, Captain America is referred to as, “the old dude with the shield,” which I personally love. I can also see why it bothers Marvel fans that the movie and TV worlds don’t connect very well.

We’ll see how it all ends up, but it’s good to know Danny will be a part of the MCU in some capacity moving forward.
