Netflix is adapting the graphic novel graphic novel Polar: Came from the Cold into an original film starring Mads Mikkelson and Katheryn Winnick.
Netflix and Constantin Films partnered to produce Polar, a new movie based on the Dark Horse graphic novel Polar: Came From The Cold, according to a report from Deadline. The graphic novel was written by Victor Santos and released in 2013.
Deadline reports Mads Mikkelson will star in the film. Mikkelson is best known for his roles in the hit TV series Hannibal, as Galen Erso in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and as Kaecilius in Doctor Strange, the latter two films are on the list of best movies on Netflix. Katheryn Winnick of Vikings, Vanessa Hudgens of High School Musical and Matt Lucas from Bridesmaids also star in the film.
The film, directed by Jonas Åkerlund, tells the story of a former spy and assassin known as Black Keiser, played by Mikkelson. When his old firm turns on him, the Black Keiser fights for his life as many top assassins try to kill him.
Polar has a great cast, and we anticipate more casting announcements as we get close to the release date. Mikkelson is one of the best actors in the world, and for those who haven’t seen Vikings, Winnick is also incredible. I’m excited to see what these performers can do with an interesting spy/assassin story.
Netflix has had huge success in the past with their comic and graphic novel adaptations, most notably Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and the other Marvel series. We’ve also seen Netflix miss with Death Note and a few others. It will be interesting to see how fans respond to this film.
Bleeding Cool reported Polar has already started production, which means it’s possible we could see this film later this year or at the beginning of 2019. The Bleeding Cool report indictates Polar will be a Netflix original film everywhere except for Canada, Germany and China with Constantin films will distributing in those countries.
We’ll be sure to let you know more about Polar and its release date when we find out.
