13. Merlin

Another show for Anglophiles! Merlin is one of the few BBC shows left on Netflix, and it’s great for anyone who’s a fan of mythology/magic fiction. It has fantastic critically acclaimed actors such as John Hurt (Harry Potter) and Anthony Head (Buffy the Vampire Slayer).

You know the story of Merlin and King Arthur, but what happened before? The show follows young wizard Merlin as he serves Prince Arthur, the person he’s destined to help, according to a prophecy. He has help from an all-knowing dragon, and his mentor Gaius. The problem? Prince Arthur’s father is strictly against magic in the kingdom, and anyone caught practicing will be put to death.

This doesn’t stop Merlin, who often uses his magic to try to help solve problems but sometimes only makes things worse. He has to protect the royal family from other magicians set out to destroy the family, as well as keeping his destined partner safe.

With only 65 episodes, it’s a short binge-watch, but it’s definitely worth the watch. All the episodes are tied together to answer the question: when will Merlin finally reveal to Arthur who he really is?
