10. Richard Dreyfuss

Richard Dreyfuss is another pick that’s far too crazy to actually happen, but he is seriously too talented and experienced to pass up. At 70, he has spent a lifetime appearing in just about every classic there is. Some of his most well-known credits include Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Mr. Holland’s Opus.

It should also be noted that Dreyfuss appeared in Stand by Me, a Stephen King adaptation that is important to Stranger Things fans as it inspired elements of the series. Potential child cast members literally read from the Stand by Me script as part of their audition process.

Clearly, he’s a pro at the dramatic arts. On top of this though, he also obviously has a lot of experience specifically with sci-fi, fantasy, and thrillers. He literally won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1977! I’m sure he could handle whatever storyline the Duffer Brothers threw at him, and he would add a nice new generation to the mix of Hawkins residents.

Another added layer to his appeal is Dreyfuss’ ties to acclaimed director Steven Spielberg. He’s clearly a favorite actor of the famed auteur, as is evidenced by his starring roles in a ton of Spielberg’s work in the 1970s.

Many of you may know, the Duffer Brothers drew a lot of their inspiration for Stranger Things from the work of Steven Spielberg. It seems sort of fitting that they use an actor he favors as part of their own series.
