6. Kristen Connolly

2012’s The Cabin in the Woods is an excellent companion piece to Stranger Things.

Just like ST harks back to classic horror and fantasy films and often gives its viewers a heavy wink with their 80s references and Easter Eggs, The Cabin in the Woods is heavy on the meta references. The whole movie is basically one big nod to classic horror conventions.

It’s seriously underwatched, so if you’ve never seen it, do yourself a favor and check it out tonight. It’s written by the ultra-popular Joss Whedon and features Chris Hemsworth before Thor, but is somehow still overlooked.

Star of Cabin is 37-year-old Kristen Connolly. She crushes it as the “innocent” character and brings complexity to a very difficult role. Even if you’ve never heard of her, trust me, she’s a great actress and The Cabin in the Woods proves that she can handle pretty cerebral work in horror.

You may have seen her in other roles, such as Jamie Campbell in the short-lived sci-fi thriller Zoo or Christina Gallagher on Netflix’s own House of Cards. Most recently, she was seen in HBO’s The Wizard of Lies, where she expertly plays an unwitting daughter-in-law of the infamous Bernie Madoff. Connolly has got the chops, she just doesn’t quite have mainstream popularity yet.

Her lack of popular work is actually a major reason I think she’s attainable for Stranger Things 3. I’d love to see her given the chance to star once more and to show us a character with that trademark ST fearlessness to conquer any monster.
