1. Hannibal Lecter

I distinctly remember the first time I was afraid of Hannibal Lecter. My parents had just seen Hannibal and my mom described the scene where Hannibal drugs a man and eats his brain while he’s alive and well.

It could have been Red Dragon too. I wouldn’t know because I refused to watch it because of how afraid I was. Now he’s not your typical monster. He’s not going to growl and use his powers to kill you.

Instead, he’s just a normal human who will eat you with no remorse. Which honestly? So much worse than a monster coming after you. At least you know the monster has bad intentions. With Hannibal, he’s charming you to turn around and eat your flesh.

Maybe I just find him terrifying because he looks and acts just like us. He doesn’t have some creepy thing about him that makes us know that he is a villain. But then he turns into a predator and all your mistakes are left before you because you know now that this man is not to be trusted.

So maybe that’s what makes him worse? The fact that you think you can trust him and can’t because he’ll eat you makes you second guess everyone around you. So basically, the psychological torture of Hannibal Lecter is the worst kind of monster after all.
