1. The Snow Ball

Even more anticipated than Jonathan and Nancy’s courtship was Eleven and Mike’s.

For two kids not even in their teens yet, this pair has had undeniable chemistry from the start of the show. I’m not sure how Stranger Things casting managed to find these wonderful child actors, but they were right on the money.

While the adults and teens are away, the boys and El are hanging out at the school. Dustin and Lucas keep themselves preoccupied with “hoarded” chocolate pudding, while Mike takes a moment to make sure Eleven is okay after the bath.

He assures her that life will be normal after the craziness is over. His parents will “be like [her] new parents, and Nancy, she’ll be like [her] new sister.” “Will you be like my brother?” Eleven innocently replies.

Mike is quick to correct that misconception. In a moment of fierce bravery, he tells her that he won’t be like her brother at all. In fact, he’d like to ask her to the Snow Ball. As he tries to describe the dance and the nature of their relationship, words fail him. He does the only thing he can think of: he kisses that girl!

Like the 80s feel of the show, this moment is simple nostalgia and joy. As we watch, we all relive the excitement and anxiety of a first kiss. We want Eleven and Mike to work. We want them to be happy.
