10. She has lasting power

There’s a lot to remember about Stranger Things.

The Duffer brothers basically crafted an entire universe for us to learn and care about. On top of the terrifying Upside Down, we have memorable scenes like the Christmas Lights from “Holly, Jolly,” impactful lines like “Friends don’t lie,” and 80s references we can quote back over and over.

Amazingly, Barb has stood out through it all. Shannon Purser only had a 3-episode arc, but she captured the hearts of millions. This Halloween, you can even buy a Barb costume from Spirit Halloween, complete with wig, glasses, and patterned button-down!

There are a bunch of reasons you can cite, but something has caused Barb to have incredible staying power. We care about what happened to her, and we continue to care about Shannon Purser’s career after leaving the show.

Despite having nine other fun (and goofy) reasons to count Barb as TV’s best sidekick, this is the one that matters most. We want to be invested in a story and to be able to empathize with and worry about our characters. Barb brought all that to the table with ease.

When her good advice goes unheard, you are frustrated. When Nancy rejects her, you feel for her. When she dies, you are acutely aware of the injustice.

Barb, unfortunately, illustrates that the good guys don’t always get their due. . . or a second season.  So we have to keep posting #JusticeForBarb because, dang it, she’s the lovable sidekick we just can’t forget.
