4. The score and the music

When thinking of the music and scores for films, there are some iconic ones that come to mind. Obviously, there’s John Williams’ Star Wars, Jurassic Park, and Indiana Jones. There’s also Hans Zimmer’s The Lion King and The Dark Knight trilogy. There are simply so many to name. For TV shows, a few come to mind that is instantly recognizable, such as The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, House of Cards, and so on. These are some of the greats and we feel Stranger Things is right up there with them.

The composers for the series are Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein, who we feel have done an incredible job. The main reason why we enjoy it so much is simply because it’s so different. It has some sort of electronic vibe mixed with techno, vaporwave, and a variety other musical styles. In some ways, it’s very soothing to listen to while still being intense in certain situations.

The perfect explanation is the show itself, which utilized the music flawlessly. Each scene had a specific tone or musical score to go along with it that just fit so well. None of the songs and musical tones felt out of place, which in some cases, can be rare. For example, the music in Suicide Squad is great, but the way the songs were used was very messy and unorganized. That isn’t the case here.

Most importantly, if you grew up in the ’80s, we feel this music accurately represents that era. Obviously, it depends on what you were into, but the music definitely delivers a sense of nostalgia.

From time to time, we still listen to the soundtrack since it’s that good. It elevates the show to an entirely new level and is a huge reason why the show is one of the best Netflix has to offer.
