13. Spying on spies

Okay, so why we’re all sitting around asking ourselves exactly why Eleven was being held by the government, to begin with, we get to see her pull off an incredible feat that includes locating a spy. In fact, she doesn’t just locate the spy, but she goes full Professor X and Cerebro on him, finds his location (spoiler: he’s probably not even in the same state as her) and is able to dial into whatever he’s saying in real time.

As unfortunate as it is, it grounds Dr. Brenner’s researched into a more realistic side of the eighties as paranoia toward enemies of the West mounts more and more. Perhaps, Dr. Brenner and his team never intended to find the Upside Down, and probably would’ve preferred not to. Instead, their goals were anti-terrorism and to be Big Brother using the best “technology” that they had.

It just happens that this technology is a little girl. Okay? This is a child. So not only is she searching for spies but if this continued and became a feasible program, she would’ve been burdened by way too much information. Like, let’s say she eavesdrops on information about nuclear codes. Everybody and their mother are going to want that information. It would just make her way too dangerous, even from a political perspective.
