Stranger Things season 2 trailer breakdown
The Stranger Things season 2 trailer opens with Mike, Dustin and Lucas riding their bikes to the local arcade to play some games. Will wasn’t riding with them, but Will is at the arcade when we see the boys playing the game Dragon Lair. The game came out in 1983 and features a knight attempting to rescue a princess from an evil dragon. I have to think this game is an obvious foreshadowing to this season’s monster much like Dungeons & Dragons were in season 1 with the Demogorgon. My gut tells me that the boys will be playing the role of the knight in Dragon’s Lair and have to rescue Eleven from the upside down.
After the boys die in Dragon’s Lair, Mike gets distracted and looks outside where he thinks he sees something big and ominous.
Quickly, the light goes out and Will is back in the upside down. Or at least, that’s what we’re led to believe. He’s not physically in the upside down, but there is something controlling him to make him see these visions of horror. The upside down is every bit as dark, horrifying and incredibly terrifying as it was in the first season. Will was held in the upside down for nearly a week and not everyone was able to escape the clutches of the monster.
A mortified Will sees something truly horrific based on the look on his face as the trailer reveals the dangers lurking outside the neighborhood arcade in Hawkins, Indiana. The world looks like it’s ending and armageddon is upon us. It looks like a scene from the book of Revelations with the sky a crimson red with pockets of bright orange lighting the night’s sky.
The monster, or at least, a monster reveals itself. This is the same spider-like creature seen in the Super Bowl teaser ad in February. We speculated about what it could mean then, but we aren’t entirely sure what this being is. It could be a dragon-like creature, a spider-like monster of some sort of mythical creature created by the imaginations of co-creators Matt and Ross Duffer. One thing I am sure about, this thing would scare the heck out of me, especially if I was the only one who could see it.
Mike gets Will’s attention at the arcade and asks if he’s okay. Will was not in the upside down and he was the only one to see the monster lurking outside. Can he summon the upside down or can the upside down call upon him? Is this something he can recover from or is he forever going to be a part of the upside down?
