Marvel’s Iron Fist officially renewed for season 2 at Netflix

Marvel’s Iron Fist is officially coming back for a second season on Netflix! The news was announced at San Diego Comic-Con during the Marvel panel for The Defenders.

Netflix and Marvel surprised viewers during the panel for Marvel’s The Defenders at San Diego Comic-Con 2017 with some news about Marvel’s Iron Fist season 2.

Nearly half a year from its premiere, Marvel’s Iron Fist has been renewed for a second season, according to Variety. It’s not necessarily surprising the series was renewed. It’s really just a tad surprising Netflix and Marvel drew attention away from what’s sure to be a great series Marvel’s The Defenders with news that won’t make all their fans happy.

Iron Fist was the worst of the four Netflix-Marvel shows, and critics crushed it when it was released on Netflix last spring. We thought the criticism of the series was a bit harsh, and I know I’m excited to see if Netflix and Marvel can redeem themselves.

We have shared out five biggest takeaways for the Iron Fist season 2 renewal news below:

1. Netflix and Marvel are doubling down on fans liking Iron Fist

There was a decent chance Marvel and Netflix would move on from Iron Fist, especially after Netflix suddenly started canceling some of their underperforming originals show. It’s nice to see Netflix and Marvel decide to run this back and take a new stab at the story. Ultimately, I think we learned a lot about the mistakes Marvel made in the first season of Iron Fist, and the second season should be much better for that.

2. We are going to see Iron Fist grow up in The Defenders and in Iron Fist season 2

One of the main sticking points with critics was how juvenile Danny was in the first season. He grew up a lot over that season, but we have to remember the story. Danny disappeared when he was in his teens, and basically, he stayed the same since that point. Other than the fact he inherited an ancient power, he’s still a kid, especially compared to our three, very adult heroes in Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage.

3. Colleen Wing and Misty Knight will team up in Iron Fist season 2

The Daughters of the Dragon are getting together in the new season! We know Simone Missick, who plays Misty Knight, and Jessica Henwick, who plays Colleen Wing, are meeting at the very least in The Defenders. But, it was confirmed today at SDCC that Missick is joining the cast in a starring role in Iron Fist season 2, according to the report. She’ll be a big part of the story, and the team up with Colleen should be fantastic!

4. Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Jessica Jones are coming back for more seasons

This news was also mentioned during the panel. It just shows Netflix and Marvel are committed to these stories. They might slow down with the rollout of these shows a little bit in the next few years, but they are going to keep striking while the iron’s hot. Netflix viewers love these shows!

5. It’s probably going to be a while before we see Iron Fist season 2

Iron Fist was the last Netflix-Marvel show to air in the spring of 2017. That means we have The Defenders, The Punisher, Jessica Jones, Daredevil and Luke Cage on the way before Iron Fist season 2. Either Netflix is going to release these shows about four months apart for the next year, or it’s going to be a super long wait for this new season.
