The Stranger Things season 2 teaser is out and it revealed the new monster we’ll see later this year. But what in the world was that thing?!

It’s not a coincidence that the Super Bowl got a lot more entertaining after the Stranger Things season 2 teaser aired. Before the teaser, it was 28-3 and headed for a blowout. After the teaser, the Patriots scored 31 unanswered points to win in overtime. But enough about that game, let’s talk a little more about the teaser that unveiled the monster we’ll see in season 2.

The teaser began with a nod to Eggo waffles in the classic old school 80s feel that was so engrossing in the first season, but a few seconds later, darkness took over and we see something terrifying.

We see a drawing of a dark monster with clouds forming around it and what appears to be as many legs as a spider. What is this unholy creation? Is this from The Upside Down? Is this the thing that Will coughed up when he returned home and it grew into this beast?

If the Demogorgon from season 1 spawned from their affinity for Dungeons & Dragons, we’re thinking the same line of thinking applies here. Doing some research on the monsters from D&D, could this monster be a Hydra?

The Hydra monsters have multiple heads and have regenerative powers that allow it to grow additional heads. Some can breathe fire while others breathe cold, but you can’t slay the beast until you cut off all of its heads.

This could be a Stranger Things-influenced Hydra and not necessarily a direct copy because it looks like there is one central head and then multiple tentacles that could conceivably have heads at the end of them, although we can’t tell from the teaser.

One thing we can say with 100 percent certainty is this season’s monster is going to be far more troublesome than season 1. I think this is really going to test Eleven’s powers and she may need some help from some of her people who share her abilities. It wouldn’t hurt if the secret government entities in and around Hawkins Lab can help defeat this monster too.

And then there’s the thought that this is all a figment of a boy’s imagination of his drawing coming to life. Then again, Stranger Things have happened.
